If there was one art movement in which Rock 'n Roll predominated last century, it was Pop Art.
One of the most well-known popular uses of British Pop Art design is certainly the outstretched tongue that the Rolling Stones have used for their merchandising since 1971.
This movement is characterized by the use of commercial objects from everyday life, is the eminent promoter of mass culture and inspired important artists such as Reinier Lucassen and Wim T Schippers from the Netherlands and Werner Berges and Gerhard Richter from Germany.
In Belgium, artists such as Marcel Broodthaers, but certainly also Paul Van Hoeydonck and Panamarenko (to whom other rooms in this hotel are dedicated) are influenced by Pop art.
However, the most famous and imaginative Pop Art artists came from the United States, with Andy Warhol (1928-1987), Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) and later Keith Haring (1958-1990).
All three also designed covers for famous musicians such as The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Malcolm McLaren, Paul Anka, Diana Ross,…
This Pop Art Room gives you a small insight into the world of these iconic artists through their designs of record sleeves, artworks, designed covers and utensils.
